Sildenafil and tadalafil belong to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors, or PDE5 inhibitors. They help relax blood vessels and temporarily increase blood flow to the penis.
These treatments do not cause an automatic erection and do not increase sexual desire. Sexual stimulation is still required. They do not permanently cure erectile dysfunction and must be taken exactly as directed by the prescriber.
